RSVPhow we met
Tommy and I met at Greater Grace Houston a few years ago in passing. He was serving the ministry, and I was a special guest. We simply greeted one another, and kept it moving. However, in February 2022, my best friend Tawanda called and shared with me that Tommy inquired about me. I said, “Girl, I’m good,” and nothing happened.
On June 11, 2022, I was vacuuming my room when my phone rang. I said, “hello,” and on the other end was Tawanda, saying, “Girrrrrrrrl I got breaking news.” I was like, “What girl, what happened?” She said, “PIA, Tommy is asking about you.” This time, I felt something different. It just felt right. I stated, “Girl, click over and call him on three-way.” I was joking, but serious simultaneously. I didn’t think she was really going to click over. Before I knew it, I heard these words: “Tommy, are you there? PIA, are you there?” I said, “Ummmmm yes…”. Tommy immediately began talking, and within the first three minutes we were laughing, and in our own world. Tawanda said, “Well heck, I’m not about to be a 3rd wheel, you two take it from here.”
Tommy then asked for my number, and I gave it to him. After Tawanda hung up, Tommy called me, and immediately we were talking as if we had known one another for years.
From June 11th until now we haven’t missed a day of talking. We would be on the phone putting in shifts for hours. We were falling asleep on the phone, waking up on the phone, and resuming conversation like nothing happened. It felt so real, so organic, and so blissful.
On June 24th I preached at Greater Grace Houston, and Tommy planned our first date that evening after I preached. It was the best date ever. (I’ll give you all the details upon details at a #Laterdate). Tommy took me to dinner, had our menus personalized, and brought me a gift loaded with rose petals. He stared at me from across the table with a look in his eyes that I have never seen in man. In that moment Tommy shared with me that he knew I was the one. Our date was blissful. The following day, after our date, I traveled to North Carolina to preach. After church that evening, Tommy called, and we spent hours talking about our date and how much of a great time we had. Suddenly, it gets quiet, and I’m like, “Tommy, you good?” After a few moments of silence, Tommy says, “Sophia, I love you. I’m in love with you.” My heart began beating so fast, my cheeks lifted, and the smile that came across my face was priceless. I blurted out, “OMG, Tommy, wow.. We might as well go together.” (There’s a background to that story that I will share at a #Laterdate). He responded, “Yes, we should,” and then he asked me out. I was like, “Yes.. Oh and I love you too.” From that moment on, the chemistry was blissful. Now y’all know I’m going to share all the deets, and in between deets, at a #Laterdate.

The Proposal
On September 29, 2022 I was on stage at my Glory After This: As It Is In Heaven Conference. I walked on stage to introduce Apostle John Eckhardt. While I’m hugging Apostle, I glance over and see Tommy standing on the stage with a bouquet of roses in his hand. My heart begins to race, my nose drips a few sweat bubbles, and I say, “What’s happening?”. Mind you, Tommy is known for presenting me with flowers, but it was something about the seriousness in his face, and the confidence in his posture.
Before I knew it, the music began to play, and Tommy started talking about “#Laterdate” becoming right now as he got on his knees and proposed to me. Tears and awe filled my eyes and heart. I was overwhelmed by God’s goodness, amazed that my special day had come, and I would be asked the most important question of my life. “Sophia Nicole Ruffin, will you please marry me?” I said yes.
There is still so much to share, so continue to follow us on this journey as we share detail upon detail as two become one.
